Fury over the Biden

In a clandestine trip unveiled by a Miami Herald report on Wednesday, a delegation from the U.S. Congressional Progressive Caucus recently visited Cuba. The delegation, comprising around ten members, was led by progressive representatives Pramila Jayapal and Ilhan Omar, both known for their past expressions of sympathy towards the Cuban regime, advocating against the U.S. embargo and supporting the normalization of relations with Havana.

The visit, confirmed by a spokesperson for the caucus after the Miami Herald’s report, was allegedly undertaken for “humanitarian reasons.” According to the spokesperson, Representatives Jayapal and Omar engaged with a cross-section of Cuban civil society and government officials to discuss human rights and the bilateral relationship between the United States and Cuba, although specific details were not provided.

The revelation sparked reactions from various quarters, especially considering that both Omar and Jayapal were among the 40 Democrats who, in July 2021, opposed a symbolic resolution expressing support for peaceful Cuban protesters and calling for the immediate release of arbitrarily detained Cuban citizens.

Moreover, Representative Jayapal has urged the Biden Administration to remove Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism—a designation imposed during the Trump administration.

Following the disclosure of the secret trip, several Republican legislators and senators questioned the motives of the two Democratic congresswomen. Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, a Cuban-American, expressed her indignation on Twitter, stating, “Nicholas Wu and all members of the media should refer to the Progressive Caucus by its more accurate name: Communist Sympathy Caucus of Congress.” She criticized the visit to a country that incarcerates, abuses, and murders its citizens while aligning with regimes such as Iran, Russia, and Communist China.

Congressman Carlos Giménez, also a Cuban-American, did not directly address the secret trip but questioned the Castro regime in several social media posts, advocating for keeping Cuba on the list of countries financing terrorism.

Senator Marco Rubio, a Cuban-American Republican from Florida, denounced Jayapal and Omar’s secret visit on his social media, referring to it as a visit to the “anti-American dictatorship.”

Biden threatens journalist Carlson:

Tucker Carlson reported that he was given a 10-page memorandum warning him about potential legal consequences for violating sanctions in the event of interviewing Putin. In response, Carlson expressed, “I do not accept the validity of that.”
